We are pleased to present the "Yusoku Imperial Doll Master: The Three Generations of Hisashige Ito Exhibition - Connecting Techniques and Spirit," marking the 14th exhibition at Wako and the first in three years by the current 12th-generation master, Hisashige Ito.

The Ito family of Yusoku imperial doll masters has been crafting Gosho dolls in Kyoto for generations since the mid-Edo period.

Passed down from father to son, these Gosho dolls are characterized by their paulownia wood carving technique, lustrous white skin,

and adorable three-head-tall proportions.

In this exhibition, the beauty envisioned by three generations of the Ito family—the current 12th-generation Hisashige Ito, Shogoro Ito, and Daichi Ito—will be gathered together.

The current Hisashige Ito will showcase primarily dignified Gosho dolls, along with decorative boxes and ornamental pieces featuring *gofun* (shell powder) relief with gold leaf. The eldest son, Shogoro Ito, will exhibit not only Gosho dolls, but also "Shirutama" and "Chibitama" pieces designed to be cradled in the palm of one's hand, as well as three-dimensional works with *gofun* relief and gold leaf, while grandson Daichi Ito will exhibit Japanese-style paintings.

We invite you to take this opportunity to view the elegant world of Kyoto, where each of the three masters inherits the traditions of their time and generation.
